    Course Overview

    This course utilises SLES9 as the Linux distribution upon which attendees learn to conduct more complex administrative skills that are necessary to the health and function of an installed and established small to medium Linux network. The tasks in this course are presented in a logical order that correlates to the networking needs of an established Linux network environment. The course design reinforces knowledge and tasks taught in the course through exercises that build upon previously introduced content and exercises, resulting in accelerated mastery of advanced administrative tasks. This course has been classified as IT Technical Training.




    Course Outline

    This course covers a broad range of advanced SUSE Linux Enterprise Server administration topics, many of which are listed below:

    • Installing SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9
    • Troubleshooting the installation process
    • Configuring the network manually
    • Setting up network devices with the IP tool and saving device settings
    • Setting up routing with the IP tool and saving settings
    • Testing the network connection with command-line tools
    • Configuring network services (OpenLDAP, Apache Web server and Samba server)
    • Securing SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9
    • Using ACLs for advanced access control
    • Configuring security settings with YaST
    • Managing backup and recovery
    • Mirroring directories and automating data backups with rsync
    • Troubleshooting the boot process
    • Developing shell scripts
    • Using advanced scripting techniques
    • Compiling software from source
    • Performing a standard build process
    • Monitoring the operating system, file system and processes
    • Managing hardware and component changes
    • Understanding device drivers, the sysfs file system, the hotplug system and the hwup command
    • Adding new hardware to a SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 system
